Alonso under investigation in Spain.

Fernando Alonso has been called to the stewards this afternoon following a series of dangerous overtaking manoeuvres in the opening corners of the Spanish Grand Prix which he went onto win. The alleged incidents took place at turn three, where the Spaniard ‘drove incredibly close to another car’ and ‘overtook around the outside without indicating’ a senior marshal told me. ‘There was a serious risk of him spinning into the oncoming traffic’ added Alfand Safety, head of the road safety charity, Brake.

Under the FIAs guidelines, cars are not allowed to overtake unless they’re in the designated ‘overtaking zones’. The ‘overtaking zones’ are generally found where nobody can overtake anyway; in today’s case, the final (pointless) chicane. If Alonso is found guilty of braking the sporting regulations he will face a ten place grid penalty at the Grand Prix of Yachts in held in Monaco in two weeks’ time.
